The 2023 Emirates Airline Festival of Literature will feature an exciting line-up of sessions curated by Festival authors and BAFTA-nominated, international prize-winning writer and poet, Lemn Sissay.
I have visited the Emirates LitFest several times and always been impressed by the sheer joy and energy that the Festival generates, particularly around poetry. I remember so well the first time I performed at Desert Stanzas, it was spine-tingling being amongst the dunes, under the stars, with the electrifying vibes of the audience surrounding me. An emotional experience for me. So when I was asked if I would like to curate a number of sessions for 2023, I didn’t hesitate. I knew I wanted sessions that focused on poetry. I also wanted conversations where authors interview each other and discover each other’s work – a natural extension of the Festival’s Green Room, where many friendships have been forged over the years. But in particular, I wanted to highlight authors who have written about children growing up in care (fostered and adopted children), the cause which is closest to my heart. I hope you enjoy my choices.
An ‘old friend’ of the Festival, Lemn has made 4 appearances at the Emirates LitFest over the last 15 years
